Hot Wax Batik on Silk
Hot wax and botanical printing on silk in the gardens: leaves and plants used as stamps, colour built up from light to dark. Everyone leaves with a silk piece to wear or to frame. No experience needed; all materials included.
Holiday Ceramic Luminaries
Hand-build a ceramic Christmas tree or angel luminary, adding texture and openings for the light to shine through. I glaze and fire the pieces, and they are ready to collect about two weeks later. For beginners, ages 12 and up; all materials included.
Shibori Silk Scarf
Discover the Japanese art of resist dyeing and create your own beautiful silk scarf using folding, binding, and color.
Christmas Wreath Batik
A holiday wreath in cold-resist batik, from one of my templates or a design of your own, finished as a wall hanging to keep or to give. No drawing or painting experience needed. Ages 12 and up; all materials included.
Kimekomi Christmas Ornaments
Three Christmas ornaments in kimekomi, a Japanese fabric technique that needs no sewing and no glue. Choose a festive design, team colours or a monogram, or bring an idea of your own. Ages 12 and up; all materials included.
Introduction to Batik: Cold & Hot Wax
A weekend with the two great approaches to batik. On Saturday, cold resist: a bold, graphic design on a fabric square about 22 inches across, from one of my templates or your own, to wear as a scarf or to frame. On Sunday, traditional hot wax, with geometric, botanical or looser patterns. Beginners welcome; everyone leaves with two finished textile pieces.
Sun & Botanical Printing on Silk
Two ways of printing with plants. On Saturday, sun printing with leaves and flowers on a silk scarf or tote (wax prints if the weather will not cooperate). On Sunday, botanical contact printing: real leaves bundled into silk and steamed to leave their marks. Everyone leaves with two one-of-a-kind pieces.
